When I Grow Up

This is a fantastic animation by Jasmin Lai about a girl who doesn’t know what she wants to be when she grows up. Imagining many future possibilities and yet feeling unsatisfied so she decides to not worry and just be herself. (at least this is my take on the story.)

Red Bull battle contest

Everyone knows of Red Bulls ability to put on an awesome event from the Soap Box Race to the Air Race but did you know they put on break-dancing battles, nope me either.

Hamburg based agency Sehsucht has put together this amazing animation to promote the event with an incredible style and execution.

This is a totally awesome animation by Philippe Gamer. At first I thought it was some sort of promo for Nissan but maybe just an unorthodox choice of vehicle to use, you would expect to see massive Hummers or tuned Gtr’s. The ending is fantastic too.

Impossible Present

Impossible Present by Royale

Here is a fantastic animation short by Royale called ’Impossible Present’.

Not only is it brilliantly done, the comedy elements and timing are played out with perfect precision. It gave me flashbacks to the Christmas just past, watching my one year old fruitlessly attacking his presents wrapping :)

Check out more of Royale’s work.

This is another awesome piece of animation created in After Effects by the people at Future Deluxe.

I have seen plenty of similar films recently, but its the small details in the animation that really excites me, especially how they achieved the illusion of heat waves emanating from the sun, it just looks so slick!

... Right I’m off to hunt down the tutorial.

The Fundamental Elements of Design

This is a fantastic little animation by Erica Gorochow which explains the, erm... fundamentals of brand design. Not in it’s entirety of course but a very good basic level of the process in clean and clear manner.

Although the accents in the narration seem a little odd to me or at least very strong, the style, timing and execution are outstanding.

Hope for desk toys everywhere

A beautiful short animation from Tom Jenkins at Theory Films with a very creative use of Google Street View and some of his desk toys... I kind of feel bad for my own desk toys now!

Accompanied by music from the amazing Cinematic Orchestra, I truly feel grateful for my freedom.

No excuses

We have been so busy at Brilliant HQ recently that the blog has been completely neglected, six weeks without a post... it’s just not on!

To kick off I’m posting up two fantastic animations that will certainly tug at your heart strings, unless of course you have no soul.

So sit back, enjoy, have a little cry and please bear in mind how much time and dedication were put into both of these shorts. Thought of you had Ryan Woodward drawing hundreds of frames by hand, 12 fps x 60 seconds x 3 minutes = 2,160 frames.

As I continue to learn and experiment more in Adobe After Effects I come across new and inspiring tips and techniques from some awesome people.

I have recently been having fun with layered compositions, cameras and particle generators on 2d photographs to give it a 3d feel, great fun! If you have absolutely no idea what I am on about then you must check out this video created from nothing more than photography, a lot of Photoshop work and after effects... with a nice track from edIT (a Brilliant favorite) to finish it off.

A truly inspirational short film from Carlos Lascano.

The use of mixed media and illustration styles not only look amazing but work so well together.
