Know Where You Stand
Seth Tara’s has been commissioned for a new campaign by the History channel, entitled "Know where you stand" where he fuses iconic imagery from the past with modern shots of the location as it stands today. I love this sort of stuff, I just wish he created more! |

AstronautDinosaur
Astro Dinosaur are a series of painting by Scott Listfield that span over a decade. His work is inspired by Kubrick’s 2001: Space odyssey showing scenes of an astronaut exploring the modern world and surrounded by present culture with a holiday snap style execution. Sci-fi books and movies made us believe we would be living in space, flying cars and working in unity towards furthering humanities quest for knowledge and exploration. Although the astronaut is expressionless, you can’t help but share in his disappointment at how far we have not come. His work truly fascinates me, you can see more on his portfolio. |

TEN
CGSociety has recently celebrated it’s first Ten years as a social hub for talented artists from all corners of the globe to share and show off their amazing work.
CGSociety held a competition entitled "TEN" where artists could submit concepts based around the word Ten. With a lot of goodies up for grabs, it’s no wonder they had so many awesome submissions. Here are a few of my favorites;

The City
The City is a collection of dioramas, crafted by US artist Lori Nix based around her ideas of a possible post-apocalyptic future. Nix grew up in Norton, Kansas and was accustomed to extreme acts of mother nature: tornado’s, floods, hailstorms, and insect infestations. The diorama collection started life a few years ago. Control Room, which was inspired by Chernobyl, brings to mind Hurricane Sandy and New York’s flooded subways. “Our life as we know it is spinning wildly out of control and we may not be able to finance our way back to a healthy planet,” says Nix. This is The City’s premise, though Nix doesn’t specify exactly how human beings have screwed up the planet-and, ultimately, become extinct. “It could be climate change, nuclear annihilation, a virus. I leave it up to the reader to decide. But if you were the last person left alive, these are the scenes you might find.” |

World’s best father
Dave Engledow has created an amazing photo series that I think most of us Dad’s can relate to in some small way, about his relationship with his daughter Alice bee and his role as a father. I often feel that I fail when it comes to supervising my son, such as meal times, the random things he puts in his mouth or the heart stopping ’sofa somersault’ he decides to perform the moment your back is turned.

Ghosts of War
Dutch historian Jo Hedwig Teeuwisse has released her photo series Ghosts of War, where she blends the present day and the original World War II pictures of the same place into one. Jo spends hours looking for the locations and taking pictures that match the originals, and then photoshops them to combine the war ghosts into the current settings. “I try to make people realise that history is all around us. That where you live, work or go to school, once people fought, died or simply experienced a different kind of life. We are history, history is us,”.

Honda - South Africa
Put together by DDB and genius animator Ned Wenlock this animation shows the ultimate journey through Honda’s history and product line. There are easter egg’s scattered through out the piece, such as their steady rise to dominance of the Isle of Man TT, their fellowship with legends like Ayrton Senna as well as imagery of Honda’s iconic founder, Soichiro Honda. It may take a few viewings to get them all, love the cameo from ASIMO! Combine all this with a soundtrack from ThePETEBOX for the ultimate in awesomeness. |

ballpoint
They might look like sharp photographs of ordinary people, but the images below are actually ballpoint pen drawings created by artist Juan Francisco Casas. Casas started experimenting with the ballpoint pen as a joke, just to see if he could draw something so realistic people would think it’s a photo. He began reproducing photos of nights out with his friends, and he liked it so much that he never gave it up. His work measures up to 10 feet high, takes up to 14 ballpoint pens and up to two weeks to complete, but the final result is absolutely mind blowing. |
